A healthy lifestyle with plenty of exercise promotes a eubiotic gut microbiota. It has long been known that bacteria that produce short fatty acids (so-called short chain fatty acids, SCFAs) can supply the body with up to 10% additional energy. Recent research has shown that bacterial species with health-promoting properties, especially those with biochemical synthesis pathways (so-called high impact biological synthases, HIBSs) for vitamins B12, essential amino acids and their bioactive derivatives, as well as peptides and lipids could be the icing on the cake for top performers. Important SCFAs-producing bacterial genera are Blautia, Eubacterium, Faecalibacterium, Ruminococcus and Prevotella.
For amateur athletes (marathon) and top athletes preparing for competitions, the exclusion of intestinal dysbiosis is a basic prerequisite, and the presence of the "right" active sports bacteria is an important factor for success.
Profile focus: Brief report on the intestinal microbiome (exclusion of dysbiosis), short chain fatty acids (SCFAs) producing bacteria, species with high impact biological synthases (HIBSs)
