Allergy Intolerance

Food allergies/intolerances have a variety of immunological and genetic causes, whereby the intestinal microbiome often contributes to the development of symptoms as a cofactor, but can also be the sole cause. In the case of lactose or fructose intolerance, there are gene variants for enzymes that cannot break down the sugar molecules. These accumulate in the large intestine, where they are selectively fermented by specific intestinal bacteria. This results in a feeling of fullness, abdominal cramps and flatulence. Some bacteria produce histamines, whereby an increase in the corresponding species can lead to the symptoms of histamine intolerance.

Profile focus: Brief report on the intestinal microbiome, determination of sugar-fermenting bacterial species, histamine-producing bacteria in stool, immunologically relevant bacterial species
